About us

Independent certification, built on separation of function

EdelCert International is a certification body headquartered in Cape Town, structured so that no single person can both audit and decide. We hold that principle as strictly with our own team as we expect from our clients' management systems.

In short: EdelCert International (Pty) Ltd, Cape Town, founded 2026. Independent certification body for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. IAS accreditation in process. Audit delivery subcontracted to partner organisations such as EdelCert SA (Switzerland).

Our story

Certification that treats you as capable of understanding your own audit

EdelCert was founded to offer a certification experience that treats clients as capable of understanding their own audit, not as recipients of a pass/fail letter. That starting point shapes how audit partners are selected, how decisions are run, and how much of the process we are willing to show a client on request.

EdelCert International (Pty) Ltd is the certification body, registered in Cape Town in July 2026 and applying for accreditation with the International Accreditation Service (IAS). EdelCert International does not perform audits itself: audit delivery is subcontracted to partner organisations such as EdelCert SA in Switzerland, under our procedures and oversight. Our accreditation scope covers construction (IAF 28) and transport, storage and communication (IAF 31).

  • A certificate is only as credible as the accreditation behind it.
  • Independence between auditing and deciding is not optional.
  • Clients should be able to ask "why" and get a specific answer.
  • Growing our reach must never mean inconsistent audit quality.
Governance

How independence is structured

Separation of function

The auditor who conducts your audit is never the person who decides your certification outcome. The platform we audit on enforces it at login level.

Impartiality mechanism

ISO/IEC 17021-1 requires a mechanism for safeguarding impartiality. Ours reviews conflict-of-interest risks before audit assignments are confirmed.

IAS oversight (in process)

IAS is assessing our management system against ISO/IEC 17021-1 as part of our accreditation application. See our accreditation page for current status.

FAQ

About EdelCert

Who owns and runs EdelCert International?

EdelCert International (Pty) Ltd is a South African company registered in Cape Town in July 2026. It is the certification body; audit delivery is subcontracted to partner organisations such as EdelCert SA in Switzerland.

What is the relationship between EdelCert International and EdelCert SA?

EdelCert International (Pty) Ltd is the certification body applying for IAS accreditation and issuing certificates. EdelCert SA, based in Bulle, Switzerland, is a partner organisation that delivers audits under subcontract to EdelCert International, following our procedures and under our oversight.

Why does separation of function matter?

ISO/IEC 17021-1 requires that the people who audit an organisation are not the people who decide whether it is certified. It is the single most important safeguard against a certificate being bought rather than earned, and we apply it to our own team as strictly as we expect clients to apply their own controls.
